Micrasterias truncata Ralfs
Reference: Ralfs 1848
Synonym: Micrasterias crenata Ralfs
Remarks: The extent to which the incisions are open or closed is very variable in this species and is probably determined by environmental circumstances. Specimen 2018035-010 (left photo) which is described in the literature as var. bahusiensis Wittrock was created by the microscopic slide drying out. After the slide was moistened, the cell returned to its normal shape (right photo). Forms in which both semicells are reduced are common.
